Busy, busy, busy!
It's hard to believe that we have finished our first month of school and our first curriculum unit! We learned so much in our "Ready for School" unit! We explored the themes of Making Friends, Learning Together and Getting Along. All of these topics helped us learn about cooperation in the classroom.
As we talked about "Learning Together" we read My Friends and then created a list of activities that are more fun when we do them with a friend. Take a peek at our list and then some pictures of us learning and working together!
We read some great books, too! We read Owen by Kevin Henkes. It's a story about a favorite fuzzy, yellow blanket and a neighbor (Mrs. Tweezers) who thinks Owen is too old to carry a blanket. It would be a great book to find in the Library...it received a five star rating from us!
Another favorite was Mouse's First Day of School by Lauren Thompson. This story was about a little mouse who hid in a child's backpack and secretly went to school! It was fun to make mice at the Art table and hide them in backpacks and sometimes in pockets!
Our most favorite story was The Little Red Hen. This story emphasized the importance of team work. When the Little Red Hen asked "Who will help?", her friends replied, "Not I"! It was fun to act out the story.
We made our own puppets, too!
During Math Centers, we practiced the concepts of Shorter, Longer and Taller and also More, Less and the Same. We explored these concepts in all areas of our classroom.
Which one is the longer?
Nurse Mary visited to teach us about thorough hand washing in hopes of keeping us all healthy. She taught us a hand washing song to remind us of all the steps of good hand washing.
"Wash, wash, wash your hands,
Soap will make them clean.
Wash the tops and wash the bottoms
and wash them in between."
We are happy to see fall weather arrive and are excited to watch the changes of the season all around us! We look forward to all that October will bring us as we begin a new curriculum unit celebrating our families!
